Next spring, Mirror Box Games will release their second game, The King’s Guild, a game of economics in a fantasy world.

In The King’s Guild, the players are the leaders of the most powerful guilds in the kingdom, hoping to claim the throne for themselves upon the old king’s passing.  To do so, they must prove their worth by gathering resources, converting them into the equipment adventurers need to complete quests, then using the rewards of those quests to recruit new guild members and expand their guild halls.  In the end, the guild that has best balanced those needs will earn the crown.

The King’s Guild is the first published design by Matthew Austin, who is also the president of Mirror Box.  The game includes a game board, 5 player boards, 10 plastic guild coat-of-arms minis, 5 guild tiles, 162 cards, 33 tiles, 75 coins, 40 wooden resource markers, and player aids.  The game is intended for 2 to 5 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about an hour and a half to play.  MSRP is $60.00.

The project is being funded through a Kickstarter campaign which reached its $20,000 funding goal in less than five hours, attracting a total of $73,434 in pledged support from 1,398 backers (an average of $52.53 per backer) going into its final week.  The campaign includes a retailer-only backer option, which includes six games and a free shipping offer.

Mirror Box Games launched three years ago with their first title, the science fiction deck building game Chaosmos (see “‘Chaosmos’ Board Game”).
