Greenbrier Games will release the combination cooperative and competitive board game Champions of Hara in Q1.

Champions of Hara was available for preview at Greenbrier’s booth at Gen Con (see “‘Folklore:  The Affliction’ and ‘Vengeance’ Emerge”).  The game features both fully competitive and fully cooperative game modes, as well as a campaign option that alternates between the two styles of play from one scenario to the next, with the results of the competitive rounds setting up the challenges for the cooperative rounds that follow it.

The final version of the game will allow one to four players to assume the role of heroes in the world of Hara, fighting against the destabilizing force of the Conflux.  Sometimes the heroes fight against each other to seize the Conflux energy to advance their own ends, while other times they must band together in order to prevent it from corrupting and destroying the entire world.

Champions of Hara combines elements of a number of different game genres, with tactical miniatures-based combat, hand management mechanics, and narrative campaigns and characters that improve and develop like a role playing game.  The game will come with more than 250 cards, 6 plastic hero miniatures, 3 plastic corrupted champion miniatures, 7 game board tiles, 4 player boards, 50 tokens, 2 dice, and a scenario book.  The MSRP was not announced.

See the gallery below for images of the miniatures and other game components.

Greenbrier has funded the production of Champions of Hara through a Kickstarter campaign that attracted $143,555 in pledged support from 1,623 backers (an average of $88.45 per backer).

Greenbrier is also planning an expansion set called Chaos on Hara, which will introduce four more playable heroes, three new corrupted champions, and two new kinds of hazards for players to contend with.  Release date and MSRP have not been announced.
