Gerard Way’s Young Animal imprint is crossing over with the DC Universe.

The five-issue Milk Wars event kicks off January 31 with JLA / Doom Patrol Special #1 from Steve Orlando (Midnighter) and Way (Umbrella Academy) and artist ACO (Midnighter). The oversized issue introduces Milkman Man, the final son of Krypton who was raised by an evil dairy farmer, and a nefarious interdimensional corporation called RetCo.

On February 7, Mother Panic / Batman Special #1 moves the action to Gotham, where a certain orphan millionaire is giving back to the community by filling the demand for sidekicks. The issue is written by Jody Houser (Faith) and drawn by Ty Templeton (The Totally Awesome Hulk).

The story continues in Shade, The Changing Girl / Wonder Woman Special #1 on February 14. Shade has been split into multiple parts to serve the Wonder Wife in a story from Cecil Castellucci (Shade, The Changing Girl) and artist Mirka Andolfo (DC Comics Bombshells).

Swamp Thing and Cave Carson join the fight in Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye / Swamp Thing Special #1 from Jon Rivera (Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye) and Langdon Foss (Vote Loki). The penultimate issue in the crossover hits stands on February 21.

The action wraps up on Feruary 28 in Doom Patrol / JLA Special #1, an oversized issue from Orlando and Way and artist Dale Eaglesham (Secret Six) and others.

Frank Quitely (Jupiter’s Legacy, All-Star Superman) provides covers for Milk Wars, and Magdalene Visaggio (Kim and Kim) and Sonny Liew (The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye) provide a backup story in the first four issues of the crossover.

Way has been curating the Young Animal imprint for DC since 2016 (see “DC Announces Gerard Way Pop-Up Imprint”). The events of Milk Wars will have a lasting impact all of the Young Animal titles.
