Burnt Island Games and their partner Grand Gamers Guild are producing a new edition of Carl de Visser and Jarratt Gray’s 2009 hit EndeavorEndeavor: Age of Sail will premier at the Spiel game fair in Germany this October.

Like the original, Endeavor: Age of Sail recreates the politics of the early colonial era.  European powers compete for dominance not only on the Continent, but also in previously unknown areas of the world.  Through a combination of area control and resource management, players take over important trade routes and build up their empires before sending out expeditions to open up new areas of the world and exploit them to advance their nation’s goals.

The new edition features new artwork and updated graphics, a double-sided game board with different layouts for different numbers of players, a new Merchant Dock playing option, and a new mechanic called “Exploits” that opens up alternative ways to play based on historic events from the time period.  Official rules for two-player games are also included.

Endeavor:  Age of Sail comes with 1 double-sided game board, 5 player mats, 306 tokens and markers, 48 cards, 50 building tiles, 9 exploit tiles, 6 wooden key markers, 1 stand-up sailing ship, 1 first player crown token, and 1 score pad.  The game is intended for 2 to 5 players, ages 12 and up, and takes a little more than an hour to play.  MSRP is $70.00.

Production is being funded through a Kickstarter campaign that broke its $60,407 funding goal in the first day, and as of this writing has attracted $183,000 from 2,529 backers (an average of $72.36 per backer). Interested retailers can participate in the campaign to order the exclusive Kickstarter Edition of the game, which features upgraded game components.  Backer fulfillment (including retailer backers) is scheduled for September.

Last year, Grand Gamers Guild published the card game Unreal Estate following a successful Kickstarter (see “Build a Fantasy Cityscape in ‘Unreal Estate’”).
