After a wait of more than a year, Mantic Games’ new edition of its futuristic football game DreadBall will release on March 19.

DreadBall 2nd Edition offers the same fast-paced science fiction sports action as the original game, but features streamlined rules for faster games, updated and re-balanced teams, league and tournament rules, and new “team captains” that add additional team-building and strategy options.

The heart of the new edition will be the DreadBall 2nd Edition Boxed Game, which features two all-new teams for the game:  The Ninth Moon Tree Sharks and the Draconis All-Stars, each with 12 plastic player miniatures and a team captain.  Also included are a double-sided game board, rulebook, quick start guide, plastic Refbot, Rush Tracker and Trophy Score Tracker, clear plastic bases, 4 DreadBalls, 78 cards, 11 counters, and 18 dice. This is everything two players need to play.  MSRP is $84.99.

The DreadBall 2nd Edition rulebook will also be offered separately in Collector’s Rulebook format for $39.99.  This 210-page book will include the updated rules, rules for league play and multiplayer games, and stats for all 29 teams, 67 MVP, and all team captains.  The book will be a limited-edition item with only one print run.

The rollout will be supported with four expansion sets, including:

DreadBall Galactic Tour Expansion, which comes with the League Handbook, a team roster pad, 2 sheets of decals, 53 new game cards, the MVP A’Teo Adysi figure and stat card, an Azure Forest Trophy, and plastic miniatures representing 1 Medi-Bot, 4 cheerleaders, and 3 coaching assistants.  MSRP is $44.99.

The Dreadball Event Deck, offering 26 random event cards with effects like exploding balls, rioting fans, and malfunctioning machinery.  A resin card stand depicting sports announcers Elmer and Dobbs rounds out the expansion.  MSRP is $29.99.

The New Eden Revenants Cyborg Team, made up of reanimated deceased players from other teams, has 15 plastic cyborg miniatures, including 2 prone players and a team captain, plastic bases, 2 DreadBalls, and 12 cards for $39.99 MSRP.

The Matsudo Tectonics Matsudan Team features a baker’s dozen of plastic Matsudan player models, including 2 prone players and a team captain, plastic bases, 2 DreadBalls, and 12 cards, also for $39.99 MSRP.

Mantic will be supporting the new edition with a new DreadBall website that will include global player rankings and resources for players.  The new website will launch next month following the release of the game.

Mantic originally announced the new edition in 2016 (see “‘Dreadball 2’ In 2017”).
