ReedPOP has signed a deal with Syfy Wire as exclusive streaming partner for New York Comic Con, Emerald City Comic Con, and C2E2, the companies announced Thursday. Under the new agreement, Syfy Wire will host the Live Stages on the main floors of the shows, with interviews, previews, and programming previews; and run streams from select panel rooms.
Syfy Wire will distribute the coverage through its website, YouTube channel and other social media platforms. Select coverage will also be shown on Syfy Channel.
It may be that the third time’s a charm; two previous attempts at streaming deals for convention content have foundered. Wizard World’s deal with Cinedigm for their CONtv joint venture cost Wizard World over $1 million in losses before the JV was shuttered (see “New Shows, CONtv Drag on Profits at Wizard World”). And Lionsgate ended its direct-to-consumer business for Comic-Con HQ, its alliance with San Diego Comic-Con, last year (see “Lionsgate Ends Direct-to-Consumer Business for Comic-Con HQ”).
