Lion Forge will be releasing Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics winner Ezra Claytan Daniels’ graphic novel Upgrade Soul. Available in print for the first time, Upgrade Soul will be on comic book store shelves on September 5.

In Upgrade Soul, an elderly couple takes part in a rejuvenation experiment, but the experiment goes horribly awry, and they must face deformed but intellectually superior versions of themselves in a psychological battle for dominance. The work was originally conceived as an interactive digital serial that incorporates graphic novel elements, music, and immersive design. It was released on Apple’s iOS starting in 2012 and has garnered praise from both the comics press and technology outlets.

The work received the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics in 2017. The McDuffie Award was launched in 2015 to honor the memory of McDuffie, a co-founder of Milestone Media who passed away in 2011 (see “Finalists for First Dwayne McDuffie Award Announced”).
