Former comic retailer and Emerald City Comic Con founder Jim Demonakos is offering a comic spinner rack on Kickstarter. The 40-pocket display carries a retro topper designed by JG Roshell of Comicraft that evokes the classic comic spinner design. Other features touted by the campaign include extra-large ball bearings, large pockets, and U.S. manufacturing. The rack is offered in black or white, and is priced for backers at $299, a discount from the planned retail price of $349.
The project reached its modest funding goal the first day.
Demonakos left ReedPOP, which acquired ECCC, last year, promising, "This is not the end of my involvement in the comics industry by any means, just a chance to change things up" (see "Demonakos Leaving ReedPOP").
Diamond Comic Distributors offered a 44-pocket rack of its own design sans topper earlier this year. Of course, neither rack actually reflects the design of the classic spinner racks, which had five sides of 10 pockets each making up a 50-pocket rack.
