Steamforged Games announced it will be retiring metal miniatures for its popular medieval fantasy football game Guild Ball over the next 24 months.

“As we touched on during our recent Indiegogo campaign, our metal molds are reaching the end of their lifecycle,” the announcement said. “We wanted to offer the opportunity to transition these classic guilds into the plastic medium but, the community response was overwhelming in their desire for new guilds instead, as opposed to our classic guilds renewed.”

Over the next two years, as the metal molds reach their end of their production life, Steamforged will be transitioning those teams to “The Legacy Collection.” As each major guild (metal) is retired, a new minor guild will release. The metal miniatures are still available through distribution, and the announcement was made now to allow players time to purchase any metal minis they want before the SKUs are retired.

This also means retailers will only be expected to have the newest stock on their shelves, without leaving them with backstock of slow selling SKUs. Two years ago (coinciding with U.S. release -  Fantasy Meets Football in Steamforged 'Guild Ball'), Steamforged transitioned their SKU count by combining 112 blisters into 15 team boxes, reducing the number of active SKUs to 30. All classic guilds will continue to be playable options as well as valid purchase options.

The Legacy Collection will be available directly from Steamforged, or at stores that support the direct range. The Legacy Collection kits will come with an exclusive goal, terrain, ball, and player cards. They will not include card punchboards.
