A team of games journalists and authors is putting together a book about games called The Board Game Book, scheduled to release in Q1 2019.

The Board Game Book seeks to explore a wide variety of games that released in 2018, providing description and analysis of some of the biggest new titles, interviews with notable game designers, and detailed photographs of game artwork and components.  Despite the book’s title, it is not limited to board games, and will include chapters on role playing games and miniatures games as well.  A section on classic games and entry-level games, written as a guide for new game players, will also be included in the book.

The hardcover book will include 256 full-color pages covering over 100 games, and was written by Owen Duffy (contributor to The Guardian, Tabletop Gaming Magazine, Ars Technica, VICE, and IGN), Matt Thrower (The Guardian, IGN, PC Gamer, Shut Up & Sit Down), Teri Litorco (editor at Geek & Sundry and author of The Civilized Guide to Tabletop Gaming), and Richard Jansen-Parkes (Tabletop Gaming Magazine).  The book will feature a forward by Games Workshop co-founder Ian Livingstone, and interviews with more than 20 designers including Isaac Childres, Eric Lang, Dr. Reiner Knizia, Martin Wallace, Bruno Cathala, and others.  MSRP will be around $30.00.

The authors are seeking funding via Kickstarter to produce the book, and have attracted $20,169 from 459 backers (an average of $43.94 per backer) as of this writing, with 13 days remaining in the campaign.  Backer fulfillment is planned for January, with release into the trade to follow.
