Designer Kane Klenko has teamed up with Gigamic to produce the real-time tile laying game Kaosmos, releasing this September.[Editors Note 2-20-19: This game has been retitled Cosmic Factory and has yet to be released.]
Based on Klenko’s earlier design, Mad City (see "‘Mad City: Plan as Fast as You Can’"), Kaosmos challenges players to construct their own nine-tile “galaxy” in less than a minute. Each round opens by revealing a new "Law of Kaos" that can alter the rules of the game for that round. Then players acquire tiles that they then must arrange to maximize their score before the sandtimer runs out. Quick players can score bonus points by "betting" that their galaxy is superior to the others in some way, but the players must also take care to balance their galaxy as only their least valuable zone scores points in the end.
Kaosmos features artwork by Sylvain Aublin (Kharnage) and includes 54 galaxy tiles, 20 Kaos cards, 6 player trays, 1 sandtimer, 3 bonus tiles, 24 wooden chips, and 1 cloth bag. The game is designed for 2 to 6 players, ages 10 and up, and takes about half an hour to play. MSRP is $30.00.
The company will premier the game at Gen Con, with the designer on hand to run demos and autograph copies of the game in the Gigamic booth.
