Lucky Duck Games will release a competitive tabletop puzzle game based on Halfbrick Studios’ Jetpack Joyride mobile game property. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.
Lucky Duck has already partnered with Halfbrick to create a trio of games based on popular mobile game Fruit Ninja (see “'Fruit Ninja Tabletop Game Series'”). Now players join Barry the gramophone salesman in breaking in to a secret lab to liberate a jetpack from evil scientists. Players must fly through the secret lab using the stolen jetpack, constructing a path using the pentomino tiles. They must avoid obstacles and collect useful items for points and mission goals. The first player to complete the course ends the round. After each round, players can customize their jetpacks with gadgets. The game takes place over three rounds.
The box includes 50 pentomino tiles, 12 gadget cards, 12 mission cards, 16 double-sided lab cards, a 50-page scorepad and a rulebook. The game is for 1 – 4 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in 20 minutes. MSRP is $25.00. Retail release is planned for March.
The game is being funded via Kickstarter, and easily bested it’s $8,000 goal in 45 minutes. The campaign has raised more than $45,000 from nearly 900 backers as of this writing, and will continue through July 31.
The mobile game Jetpack Joyride will also be immortalized in a coffee table book, Art of Halfbrick: Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride, and Beyond, coming from Dynamite Entertainment in August (see "Sliced Fruit Becomes Pop Art in 'Fruit Ninja' Coffee Table Book").
