Fantasy Flight Games is teaming up with Privateer Press to produce a subscription-only limited edition run of miniatures depicting characters from the Legend of the Five Rings world, beginning in January.

The Legend of the Five Rings MiniCrate will follow the same format as Privateer’s existing MiniCrate subscription program (see “Privateer Offers ‘MiniCrate’ Subscription Service”).  Each month, subscribers will receive one highly-detailed exclusive limited edition unpainted miniature.  In addition to the miniature, each month’s MiniCrate will include an exclusive Collector’s Card that shows the concept art used to inspire the sculpting of the miniature.  The miniatures are intended as display pieces or as accessories for Fantasy Flight’s Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying game.

The first miniature in the new series will appropriately depict the Dragon Clan Champion Togashi Yokuni, which was a character created by Privateer Press’ founder and Chief Creative Officer Matt Wilson when he worked on the Legend of the Five Rings setting for AEG more than twenty years ago.  The Togashi Yokuni miniature will ship to subscribers in January.

Privateer is offering both monthly and six-month “VIP” subscriptions.  Monthly subscriptions are $16.99.  VIP subscriptions are $98.99, and in addition to the six monthly miniatures it includes a bonus seventh miniature at no additional cost.  The bonus miniature will depict a Naga Hunter.

Legend of the Five Rings is not the only role playing game property to inspire a line of direct-to-consumer miniatures.  Last year Ninja Division launched a line of licensed miniatures based on Paizo’s Starfinder game (see “Unpainted ‘Starfinder’ Miniatures Revealed”).
