DC Universe, Hulu, and Disney have been very busy in the latest geek TV news.

DC Universe, DC’s soon-to-launch digital subscription service (see "DC Universe Subscription Service Reveals Rates"), will keep subscribers up to date about the service, breaking news, and more with DC Daily.  The daily news show is set to launch on August 29 at 4:30 p.m., with Kevin Smith hosting the inaugural episode, which offers an in-depth look at the digital service.  It can be live-streamed on Facebook, Twtich, and YouTube. Future episodes will air on DC Universe, with select segments being made available on other channels, including DC’s YouTube channel.  Notably, DC Daily will include interviews and segments about comics, which potentially could benefit retail sales.

DC Universe’s live action Doom Patrol has added Mummy-hunter Brendan Fraser.  Fraser will play Robotman, aka Cliff Steele, voicing the robot character and appearing in flashbacks as Steele. Riley Shanahan will provide the physical performance of Robotman, according to Deadline.  Fraser joins previously cast April Bowlby (Two and a Half Men) as Elasti-Girl (who also appears in Titans) and Diane Guerrero (Orange Is the New Black) as Crazy Jane. The series for DC’s streaming service is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, and Sarah Schechter (see “DC Universe Goes on 'Doom Patrol'”).

Fraser will also be joining Joivan Wade who has been cast as Cyborg / Victor Stone, arguably one of the more recognizable characters in Doom Patrol.  The British actor appeared in the highest grossing outing for The Purge franchise, The First Purge, as well as Doctor Who and EastEnders.

The long-sought Veronica Mars revival may be happening on Hulu.  The streaming service is reportedly working on a series with star Kristen Bell set to resume the role of the titular detective and original series creator Rob Thomas on board to write, according to Variety.  Warner Bros. Television is also on board, but sources indicate that a deal isn’t final yet, especially given Bell’s obligations to The Good Place for NBC.  The original series clocked three seasons starting in 2004, first on UPN, then on The CW.  It amassed a cult following, which contributed to a massive Kickstarter for a well-received cinematic followup in 2014 (see "DVD Round-Up: 'Veronica Mars'").  The character last saw life in Play It Again, Dick, a spinoff web series for CW Seed (see “'Veronica Mars' Heads to the Web”).

Hulu has the Old City Blues.  The streaming service is developing the graphic novel series by Giannis Milonogiannis (Prophet, G.I. Joe), with some heavy hitters already lined up to star, produce, and direct. Kerry Washington (Scandal) will star and executive produce, with Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski on board to direct and executive produce the series, which is based on the comic published by BOOM! Studios’ Archaia imprint.  Additional executive producers include Makeready TV Studio’s Brad Weston and Scott Nemes and BOOM!’s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy. Old City Blues is a murder mystery set in the near future, involving environmental disaster, corporate technology giants, cyborgs, and good old fashioned murder.

As if the prospect of a live action Kim Possible weren’t exciting enough, the Disney Channel original film has added a couple of beloved actors. Comedian, actor, and Twitter wizard Patton Oswalt will be playing the villain he voiced in the series, Professor Dementor.  Chritsy Carlson Romano, who voiced the teen spy for the animated series, will also make a cameo appearance (via Variety).  Sadie Stanley stars in the film, which is set to debut on the Disney Channel in 2019 (see “'The Normals,' Morlocks In 'The Gifted' Season 2 (Plus Trailer), 'Kim Possible' First Look, 'Disenchantment' Trailer, 'Wynnona Earp' Renewed, 'Iron Fist' Sets Date”).
