Dark Horse Comics held the license for the last two decades (see “Dark Horse's Buffy License Is Ending”). BOOM! acquired the license as a result of Twentieth Century Fox Film’s strategic investment in the company (see "Twentieth Century Fox Buys Into BOOM! Studios"). The comic book adventures set in Whedon’s Firefly universe are also published by BOOM! (see "'Firefly' Comics Head for New Ground").
