Marvel's market share lead slipped to less than 4% in October, according to information released by Diamond Comic Distributors, as year-to-date comic sales passed 2017's behind an extra week in the month.
Comics and graphic novel sales were up 8.38% in October vs. October 2017, with comics up 9.66% and graphic novels up 5.3%. That's with an extra week in October 2018, which was a five-week month vs. a four-week October in 2017. With those growth numbers, it's likely that the year-over-year comparison would have been negative with two four-week months. The comparison will reverse out in November, which has four weeks in 2018 and had five in 2017.
Year-to-date comics and graphic novel sales were up 0.38% at the end of October, with comics up 2.13% and graphic novels lagging, down 3.76% for the period.
Marvel’s share lead of less than 4% was down from what has been around a 10% lead in recent months.
