Anomaly Productions, which pioneered the use of Augmented Reality in comics, is planning two new products that take the AR-enhanced comics experience in exciting new directions: a kids graphic novel and a series of how-to comics.

First up is Creative Creature Catcher, a new Augmented Reality kids graphic novel, due out in June.  The $19.95 32-page hardcover tells the story of fantastical animals who have become lost in our world and need to be found and re-united with their families.  An Android and iOS app brings the pages alive by animating the characters, or can read the book to pre- or early readers.  Creative Creature Catcher is written by Brian Haberlin, with art by Geirrod Van Dyke.  Target age is 3-12.

And launching later this summer, Anomaly’s Haberlin plans to build on his career as an educator to use AR-enhanced comics to teach comics art techniques.  Planned as a monthly series of how-to comics, each issue will focus on specific comic creation skills, with an AR app that when pointed at the page can use video to show the steps used to create it.  The first issue is planned around comic basics, with future issues to concentrate on topics such as kids comics, penciling, inking, layouts, and so on.  The package will be a $9.95 32-page card-stock comic-sized publication.

Anomaly introduced AR-enhanced comics with its series of Anomaly graphic novels (see "'Anomaly 2: The Rubicon'").
