Mantic Games is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a new third edition for its flagship mass combat miniatures game Kings of War, which will launch in October.  It will be the first edition of Kings of War that will not be funded through Kickstarter.

Kings of War is a tabletop miniatures game designed for large-scale battles set in a fantasy world.  It was originally released in 2010, and was upgraded to its second edition in 2015 (see “‘Kings of War’ Second Edition”).  The new third edition of the game will feature improvements to army creation and updates to gameplay intended to improve competitive balance.

The new version of the game will be sold as a 380-page rulebook that describes the setting of the Kings of War world, called Pannithor, as well as the new refreshed rules set and complete army lists for 14 factions.  MSRP has not yet been announced.

Mantic plans to support the new release with the introduction of a new faction called the Northern Alliance, new “titanic” monsters for a number of factions, and commemorative models.  Over the next two years, the company will release additional army lists, bringing the total number of factions in the game to 26.

Last year, Mantic launched Kings of War:  Vanguard, a skirmish-scale version of the game (see “‘Kings of War’ Gets Personal with New Skirmish Game”).
