Nagata Kabi’s manga My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness was a surprise best-seller when Seven Seas Entertainment released it in 2017 (see "June 2017 BookScan – Top 20 Graphic Novels"), and the follow-up series, My Solo Exchange Diary, had strong sales as well.  Now Seven Seas has licensed her newest book, My Alcoholic Escape from Reality, which they will release on January 26, 2021, with an MSRP of $14.99.

Like Kabi’s earlier manga, My Alcoholic Escape from Reality is a diary comic drawn from her own experiences.  In My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness, she depicted her struggle with depression, her feelings of shame that she was unable to work full time or have a social life, and her initial sexual experience with an escort from a lesbian escort service.  The comic was a huge hit in Japan as well as the U.S., but as she depicts in My Solo Exchange Diary, that success didn’t solve her problems.

In My Alcoholic Escape from Reality, Kabi self-medicates by drinking heavily, and then, after experiencing debilitating abdominal pains, she is hospitalized with pancreatitis.  As she recovers from that illness she also begins to find her way back to a more balanced life and to rebuild her career as a manga creator.
