Two major regional conventions have been canceled in the last few days, reflecting the continuing difficulties event organizers face in the coronavirus era, with a possible harbinger of how such events may eventually begin to return.

MegaCon Orlando, which rescheduled from April to early June and then held out until less than a month before its scheduled dates (see "MegaCon Still Scheduled"), has now given up on its main show for the year.  In a move that may be a harbinger of what’s ahead for fan events, MegaCon announced that it will host MegaCon Limited Edition on October 30-November 1, an "incredibly exclusive" event.

Tickets at the Limited Edition event will be limited to 25,000 "to insure a safe experience," the organizers said.  The show normally boasts attendance of over 100,000, so that’s a major effort to reduce density for the event. MegaCon is run by Fan Expo HQ, a division of Informa.

Rose City Comic Con in Portland, a Clarion Events convention, was canceled outright.  It was scheduled for September; the next event will be held in September 2021.
