Artists Writers & Artisans will release the first graphic novel collections of its new comics line in October. Five volumes, all 144 pages at $9.99, will street on October 20. This pricing strategy is the one followed by Image Comics, which also prices the first volumes of new graphic novel series at $9.99 to encourage trial.
The five trade paperback volumes are:
The Resistance, by J. Michael Straczynski with art by Mike Deodato, Jr, Frank Martin, and Rahzzah. This title, which launches a new shared universe, is perhaps particularly apt, as it concerns a world after a global pandemic that kills hundreds of millions and leaves behind 15 to 20 million people that have acquired superpowers as a result of the disease.
Year Zero, written by Benjamin Percy with art by Ramon Rosanas and colors by Lee Loughridge.
Hotell, written by John Lees with art by Dalibor Talajic and colors by Loughridge.
Archangel 8, written by Michael Moreci with art by C.P. Smith and Snakebite Cortez.
Red Border, written by Jason Starr with art by Will Conrad and Ivan Nunes.
Artists, Writers, & Artisans, led by former Marvel Publisher Bill Jemas, raised $10 million from James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems and Lightspeed Venture Partners, the lead investor in the round. Former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso is leading the company’s creative efforts (see "AWA Raises Another $5 Million").
