Bruce Willis will play the lead role of Hartigan, the hardboiled cop with the bum ticker, in the movie adaptation of Frank Miller's Sin City. The April 23rd issue of Entertainment Weekly includes an interview with Robert Rodgriguez, who is co-directing the film with Miller. Rodriguez was excited about the prospect of working with Willis, telling EW, 'I've been a big fan of Bruce's since Moonlighting. I remember seeing a black-and-white film noir episode with him in Moonlighting. He's got this great, hardboiled black-and-white face.'
Rodriguez plans on shooting Willis' sequences in black-and-white in order to pay tribute to Miller's B&W Sin City art, which is itself a homage to the dramatic visuals of the great Hollywood film noir movies of the 1940s and 50s (Criss Cross, The Asphalt Jungle, The Killing, Touch of Evil). Rodriguez does plan to shoot some sequences in color, but his choice to film even part of Sin City in black-and-white is courageous to say the least, and testifies to the control he must have over this highly intriguing project.
Quentin Tarantino is also involved with the film (see 'Quentin Tarantino Heads to Sin City'), along with a long list of stars (see 'Major Star Power Being Recruited for Sin City').
