Netflix signed four production deals and added several titles to their 2021 and beyond anime slate.

Netflix has been on a tear lately in an attempt to beef up the streaming service's anime offerings. In October, Netflix signed a production deal with four animation studios located in Japan and Korea according to Deadline. Japan’s NAZ, Science SARU, MAPPA, and Korea’s Studio Mir each signed a non-exclusive production line partnership with Netflix.

Netflix also added several titles to its service for release in 2021. New anime series coming in 2021 and beyond are as follows according to THR and Deadline:

  • Spriggan (David Production)
  • Vampire In The Garden (WIT STUDIO – a group company under Production I.G)
  • Supercrooks (Studio Bones)
  • Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure (Dwarf Studios, TYO Inc., San-X Co.)
  • Thermae Romae Novae (NAZ)
  • High-Rise Invasion (ZERO-G)
  • Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan (David Production)
  • The Way of the Househusband (J.C.STAFF)

The Way of the Househusband and Supercrooks are clear standouts amongst this group of series announcements. The Way of the Househusband was nominated for a Harvey Award in 2020 for Best Manga (see "Osamu Tezuka, Jill Thompson, Milestone Founders Named to Harvey Awards Hall of Fame"). Supercrooks  by Mark Millar, who had many hit-making runs in Marvel comics, is another potential gem that comes from a deal Netflix made to acquire "Millarworld" in 2017 (see "Mark Millar's 'Millarworld' Acquired by Netflix").

Retail manga sales numbers are often influenced by the prevalence of popular anime series on mainstream services like Netflix and Hulu.
