The mention of Marvel Masterworks had once inspired an array of emotions amongst veteran GN retailers (see 'Marvel on Barnes & Noble Masterworks Editions', and also, see 'Sara Gray of Comic Gallery on Marvel Masterworks Exclusive'), but it looks like more affordable versions of this once high-priced line are on their way to market. Marvel will launch the Mighty Marvel Masterworks line this summer, which is aimed at a younger audience and formatted in 6-by-9 digest editions.
The three books that will be released this summer are as follows:
- Mighty Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man - With Great Power collects Spider-Man (1963) #1-10 and material from Amazing Fantasy (1962) #15. It includes Peter Parker's origin and the first appearances of J. Jonah Jameson, Doctor Octopus, the Sandman, the Vulture and Electro. The stories were written by Stan Lee with art by Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. It will feature two covers: main cover by Michael Cho and an exclusive retailer variant by Steve Ditko.

This volume features the first team appearance of Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, the Invisible Girl and the Human Torch as they battle Mole Man, the Skrulls, the Puppet Master, the Sub-Mariner, and the infamous Doctor Doom. The stories were penned by Stan Lee with art by Jack Kirby, and it will have two covers: main cover by Michael Cho and an exclusive retailer variant by Jack Kirby.
- Mighty Marvel Masterworks: The X-Men - The Strangest Super Heroes of All collects Uncanny X-men (1963) #1-10.
