Marvel's post-Empire Strikes Back comic book lineup, which includes Star Wars, Star Wars: Bounty Hunters, Star Wars: Darth Vader, and Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, has been one of the shining stars for Marvel Comics since the Star Wars lines rebooted in 2020 (see "The Dark Lord of Sith Seeks Vengeance In 'Star Wars: Darth Vader"). Star Wars comics are hot amongst collectors (see "'Star Wars' Collectible Comic Prices Head to Another Galaxy!"), and the hottest of all Star Wars characters is Boba Fett, who will be prominently featured in the first book of this event, War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1.
The story for this crossover begins with Boba Fett headed to Tatooine from Bespin with a frozen-in-carbonite Han Solo in his cargo hold. Suddenly, he finds himself being chased by other bounty hunters who are trying to steal his precious cargo and claim the reward from Jabba the Hutt for themselves. This story arc plays out over the course of the following five comic books released throughout the month of May:

- Star Wars #13; written by Charles Soule with art by Ramon Rosanas and a cover by Carlo Pagulayan comes out May 12.
- Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #12; written by Ethan Sacks with art by Paolo Villianelli and a cover by Mattia De Iulis comes out May 19.
