Charitable organization ComicBooks for Kids, which provides free child-friendly comics and graphic novels to kids in hospitals, cancer centers and medical facilities across the U.S., has announced its annual awards for 2020, as it expands its space.
Retailer of the Year for 2020 was awarded to Hooked on Comics in Avon, Pennsylvania, a repeat winner. Hooked on Comics does a weekly auction every Saturday night, with the proceeds going to the charity.
Publisher of the Year for 2020 went to Oni-Lion forge Publishing, which donated pallets of books that were gobbled up across the country, according to the organization.
President’s Award went to Funko, which donated toys, POP!s, plushies, key chains, card games, and other pop culture items that have gone to cheer up kids.
The organization recently moved into a space six times as large as the previous space. "We are thrilled that this mission has helped so many children and teens across the country and are honored by the continual support we receive," organization President Mark Weiss said of the move. "As a result of this new space, we will be shipping greater quantities of even more pop culture items to a greater number of hospitals."
ComicBooks for Kids expanded its remit to include members of the military last year (see "ComicBooks for Kids Expands to Troops").
