Comics by Instagram personalities often do well. Nathan Pyle’s Strange Planet, published in November 2019, topped the BookScan graphic novel charts in its release month (see “November 2019 NPD BookScan – Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”) and remained in the top slot for three months before being bumped aside by another Instagram comic, Chatana Chetwynd’s Snug: A Collection of Comics About Dating Your Best Friend (see “February 2020 NPD BookScan – Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”). Chetwynd’s followup, In Love and Pajamas, also debuted at number one (see “February 2021 NPD BookScan – Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”). Previously, Mari Andrew’s Am I There Yet? spent three months in the number two spot, starting in March 2018 (see “March 2018 NPD BookScan – Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”) and then slowly declined until December 2018, when it reappeared just in time for the holidays. On the other hand, Yehuda and Maya Devir’s One of Those Days (see “‘One of Those Days’ Comes to Print”) did not sell well enough to make the Top 20.
