NBM Publishing has announced three new titles for Summer 2022, and they also plan to bring back the graphic novel Bluesman in August. Here’s a look:
David Bowie in Comics is, as advertised, a collection of bio-comics about the creator of Ziggy Stardust. The format is similar to NBM’s recent graphic novels focusing on the Rolling Stones (see "The Rolling Stones, Albert Einstein, Love, and More") and other musicians: A collection of short comics, each focusing on a moment in the subject’s life, by a variety of creators. This is the second Bowie comic in recent years, following Insight Comics’ Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams (see "Insight Comics to Publish ‘Bowie’"). David Bowie in Comics will be a 176-page, full color hardcover, scheduled for June, with an MSRP of $27.99.
Big Scoop of Ice Cream, by Conxita Herrero, records Herrero’s life and dreams in 17 short comics. Herrero a Spanish former art student in her 20s, draws in a ligne claire style and uses flat areas of color to create a simple look that disguises the complexity of her comics, which revolve around the theme of coming of age. NBM will publish it in July as a 144-page, full color paperback with flaps, with an MSRP of $17.99.
Bluesman collects the original trilogy by writer Rob Vollmar and artist Pablo Callejo that tells the story of a Black musician fleeing a lynch mob in Arkansas in the late 1920s (see "NBM Has ‘Bluesman’ Saga"). NBM first published the collected edition in 2008; this edition, slated for August, will be a 224-page trade paperback with an MSRP of $19.99.
