Created by the Naqvi family (Farting Frenchies), Beware of Bears imagines players walking through the paths of a forest inhabited by unusually aggressive bears. Each player begins with a “forest” of five cards, each of which may or may not depict a hungry bear. During the game, players take turns drawing and playing cards which can extend their path or allow them to take actions such as forcing an opponent to reveal cards in their forest or rearranging their cards. The goal is to construct a path of eight cards in the center tableau, or force the others to lose their three “lives” during bear encounters.
The game includes 150 cards, many featuring photos of bears and national parks, plus 18 double-sided life tokens. It is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 7 and up, and plays in under half an hour. MSRP is $20.00.Click Gallery below to see sample cards from the game.
Boss Dog raised funds to produce the game through a Kickstarter campaign earlier this month that attracted $159,128 in pledges from 2,549 backers (an average of $62.42 per backer). Fulfillment is planned for December, along with a pair of 20-card expansion packs.
