A new boxed set for Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000, entitled Shadow Throne, will feature battles on humanity’s homeworld.  Also planned are the new Codex:  Adeptus Custodes and Codex:  Genestealer Cults, for the two factions featured in Shadow Throne.

Shadow Throne allows players to recreate a series of battles fought on Holy Terra, the capital of the Imperium of Man in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.  On one side are the shadowy forces of the Genestealer Cults, who have infiltrated the world as part of their slowly-maturing plans.  On the other are the superhuman warriors of the Adeptus Custodes, the Emperor’s own personal bodyguard.

In addition to the models needed to field both armies, the boxed set includes a 32-page campaign book that offers narrative missions that recreate the “Unthinkable War” between the Cult of the Pauper Prince, led by the revolutionary Mersea Thrayk and the Custodes forces of Blade Champion Aristothes Carvellan.

Models are supplied unpainted, and assembly is required.

The two factions each get their own updated Codex as well, with new rules and units for the two armies.

The Codex:  Adeptus Custodes folds the anti-psyker “Silent Sisters” together with the rest of the Custodes while also introducing the Blade Champion, a melee combatant with multiple fighting modes, new Strategems, Relics, and Warlord Traits, and special Crusade rules that allow Custodes players to choose their own objectives but risking dishonor should they fail.

Codex:  Genestealer Cults offers new tactical options for these devious warriors, who gain new ways to ambush their opponents, new abilities, and their own new Crusade rules.

Release dates and MSRP have not been announced.
