Writer Steve Niles is returning to the world of Criminal Macabre and his supernatural detective Cal McDonald with a new story, Criminal Macabre: Spirit of the Demon, that will be published as an original graphic novel. Aside from a few one-shots, this is the first Criminal Macabre story that is not serialized as a monthly comic. Niles is teaming up with artist Syzmon Kudranski (Spawn, The Punisher) for the book, which he says will be different from the earlier works. “For this graphic novel I've taken a slightly, more serious approach to Cal McDonald,” he said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It's a much moodier piece and the art by Szymon is dark. It's about falling into Hell so it fits well.” Dark Horse will publish the book in July 2022 as a 72-page hardcover with an MSRP of $19.99.
