Udon Entertainment has acquired the English-language print rights for Summertime Rendering, a 13-volume manga series by Yasuke Tanaka. The series ran from 2017 to 2021 on the Japanese webcomics platform Shonen Jump+ and was published digitally in English on the MANGAPlus website. This is Udon’s first Shonen Jump license, and they will begin releasing the series in 2022.

The series is being adapted into an anime to be directed by Space Brothers director Ayube Watanabe and overseen by screenwriter Hiroshi Seko, whose credits include Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan. The English version of the anime will stream on Disney+ and other platforms beginning next year.

The story is a mystery of sorts, following a young man who returns to the island where he grew up after the death of a friend. Although she appears to have drowned while saving a child from drowning, questions swirl around her disappearance, and immediately after her funeral, more unsettling events start occurring.

Udon publishes a mix of art books, graphic novels, and manga, including the classic manga Rose of Versailles (see “Udon Sets Release for ‘Rose of Versailles’ Manga”).
