Writer and artist Peach Momoko will reimagine the epic Marvel event Civil War in her next four-issue miniseries, Demon Wars: The Iron Samurai. The story will be a sequel to her Demon Days (see “Second Installment of the ‘Demon Days’ Saga”), and like those stories, will blend Marvel characters with Japanese folklore; translator and yokai expert Zack Davisson is co-scripting the series with her.
As before, Momoko will be the artist for both the interiors and the covers, and her signature character Mariko Yashida will be in the center of the action, facing creatures inspired by both Marvel and Japanese mythology: samurai armor that comes to life, a ravenous red serpent, a winged being wearing a falcon mask. She will also bring her own sensibility to familar heroes including Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Panther.
The comic will go on sale on July 13 with two covers, both by Momoko.
