Writer Ram V and artist Rafael Albuquerque will be the new creative team for Detective Comics, DC announced today, starting with Detective Comics #1062. They plan to start their run with a four-part story, “Gotham Nocturne,” a high Gothic tale in which Batman struggles with a feeling of inexplicable dread while battling the  real demons who are attacking Gotham City. Each issue will have a backup story by writer Si Spurrier that will be set in Gotham City. Spurrier will collaborate with artist Dani on the first one, which follows Jim Gordon’s return to work as a private investigator. Detective Comics #1062 will go on sale on July 26 with a main cover by Evan Cagle, variant covers by Lee Bermejo and J.H. Williams III, a 1:25 variant cover by InHyuk Lee, and a 1:50 foil variant by J.H. Williams.

“For me, the draw of Batman as a character and that of the world around him had always been this blanket of tragedy that lay above it all. So, with that perspective, ‘Gotham Nocturne’ is a quintessentially Batman story, told with the aesthetics of a gothic opera,” said Ram V in a statement accompanying the announcement. His previous work includes Catwoman and The Many Deaths of Laila Starr. Albuquerque’s previous DC work includes American Vampire and Superman/Batman.
