Comic creator Matt Kindt will launch Flux House, a new boutique imprint at Dark Horse Comics that will be the exclusive home of his creator-owned work, the company announced.  The new imprint will feature a variety of forms and formats, with Kindt personally designing the publications to be both books and art objects.  Among the upcoming packages are publications that will be magazine-sized, special print features (like die-cut and fur), and a punch-card dust jacket.

The first release under the new imprint will be MIND MGMT: Bootleg, a four-part miniseries launching in July.  Kindt will write, with art by Farel Dalrymple, Jill Thompson, David Rubin, and Matt Lesniewski.  This will be the first time MIND MGMT stories will be drawn by artists other than Kindt himself.  The series will feature variant covers by Jim Rugg, Marguerite Sauvage, Aron Wiesenfeld, and Laura Perez, and the polybagged variants will contain a subversive, collectible playing card.

Kindt explained the concept for the imprint.  "Flux House is inspired by Fluxus – an avant-garde art movement from the 1950s that was an extension of Surrealists and Dadaists," he said.  "The Fluxus movement focused on the creative process and experimental art forms.  Their trademarks include accessibility, absurdism, and a sense of humor… Flux House aims to embody all of these elements.  It won’t be limited by traditional forms of books and print. And the story format will, as the name implies, always be in flux."

Dark Horse President Mike Richardson welcomed Kindt’s new imprint, which joins Karen Berger’s Berger Books, Brian Michael Bendis’ Jinxworld, and Kevin Smith’s Secret Stash in the company’s growing line of imprints for creator-owned comics.  "Matt Kindt is a smart and innovative artist, who wants to push at the limitations of the comics medium,” he said.  "When Matt pitched me the idea of a pop-up imprint with books that would be unique, collectible artifacts, I didn't hesitate to say yes."
