Marvel’s two current Captain America series, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty and Captain America: Symbol of Truth, will converge next spring in a new event, Cold War, which will also bring back Nomad and reveal the origin of Steve Roger’s shield.

Marvel SVP – Print Sales and Marketing David Gabriel and EIC C.B. Cebulski discussed the upcoming event at the Diamond retailer panel at SDCC. “We've got two Captain America books right now,” Gabriel said, “and as the year goes on, we're going to see a closer connection between the two. When we get into November and December, things will start to heat up between the two books and they will all be leading to a big Captain America event called Cold War and that will be in the spring of 2023.”

Captain America: Symbol of Truth, by writer Tochi Onyebuchi and artist R. B. Silva, focuses on Sam Wilson, while Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, by writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing and artist Carmen Carnero, centers on Steve Rogers (see “Preview: Two New ‘Captain America’ Titles”).

“The Sam Wilson Cap book is really more of a domestic tale, with him taking on the mantle and becoming Captain America,” Cebulski said, “while the Steve Rogers book is Steve finding out the truth about the conspiracy behind the Shield. And while they do seem separate, like David said, they are interconnected. Jackson and Colin and Tochi, the writers of the titles, got together at a recent summit and really plotted out some ideas of how they can fit into this big grand Cap adventure. It’s going to tie them together and will have lasting repercussions across the Marvel universe.”

As for Nomad, Gabriel said, “I don't want to spoil who Nomad's going to be—there's been a couple—but it's going to be one that we've seen before. It'll be a little shocking, which one that is.”
