DC Comics will launch four new Gotham City series and limited series in October, featuring the classic Batman foes the Riddler, the Joker, and Harley Quinn, as well as the newcomer Punchline and a prestige-format one-shot starring the Penguin.

The Riddler: Year One, by writer Paul Dano (who played the Riddler in The Batman) and artist Stevan Subic, is a prequel to the film The Batman that depicts Edward Nashton’s progress from forensic accountant to the terror of Gotham City. The six-issue limited series will launch on October 25, and the first issue will have a main cover by Bill Sienkiewicz, variant covers by Jim Lee and Subic, a 1:25 variant by Greg Ruth, a 1:50 variant by Tula Lotay, a 1:100 variant by Kouta Sasai, and a 1:250 variant by Jim Lee. All covers will be card stock. The 32-page comic will have an MSRP of $4.99.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing, by writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Carmine di Giandomenico, starts where The Joker ended and follows the Joker as he travels across the U.S. on a violent mission with a vigilante on his trail. The first issue also includes a backup story featuring The Joker and Mirror Master, with art by Francesco Francavilla. The series will launch on October 4 and issue #1 will have a main cover by Di Giandomenico, variant covers by Lee Bermejo and David Nakayama, a 1:25 variant by Francesco Mattina, a 1:50 variant by Ben Oliver, a 1:100 variant by Haining, and a foil variant by Nakayama. All covers are card stock, and the 40-page issue will have an MSRP of $5.99.

Punchline: The Gotham Game, by writers Tini Howard and Blake Howard and artist Gleb Melnikov, is a six-issue limited series featuring the Joker’s deadly protégé as she sets out to dominate the Gotham City criminal world, with the help of her Royal Flush Gang. The first issue will be released on October 25 with a main cover by Melnikov, variant covers by Derrick Chew and Rose Besch, a 1:25 variant by Rafael Albuquerque, a 1:50 variant by Guillem March, and a 1:100 variant by Mateus Manhanini. The main cover edition of the 32-page comic will be priced at $3.99 and the card stock variants will have an MSRP of $4.99.

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: Legion of Bats!, by writer Tee Franklin and artist Shae Beagle, spins out of the events of the third season of the animated series, with Harley now a part of the Bat-Family and Poison Ivy leading the Legion of Doom. The six-issue limited series will launch on October 18, and the first issue will have a main cover by Yoshi Yoshitani, a variant cover by Dan Hipp, a 1:25 variant by Logan Faerber, and a 1:50 variant by Jess Taylor. MSRP for the 32-page issue #1 is $3.99 for the main cover, $4.99 for the card-stock variants.

Batman: One Bad Day – Penguin #1, by writer John Ridley and artist Guiseppe Camuncoli, completes the October lineup of bad guys with the latest in DC’s series of prestige-format, 64-page one-shots (see “Preview: ‘Batman – One Bad Day: The Riddler’ #1”), each of which focuses on a different Gotham City villain. In this issue, the Umbrella Man has robbed the Penguin of his criminal enterprises and abolished all the rules, and the Penguin has to restore order from the chaos with just one gun, one bullet, and his wits, while Batman has to decide whose side to take. The one-shot will go on sale on October 18 with a main cover by Camuncoli, a variant by Jim Lee, a 1:25 variant by Dan Mora, a 1:50 variant by Jamal Campbell, a 1:100 variant by Brian Bolland, and a premium variant by Camuncoli. All covers are card stock, and the issue will have an MSRP of $7.99.
