IDW Publishing is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with a new series set up like a “lost episode” of the original show. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—The Dog of War is a five-issue limited series by sci-fi novelist Mike Chen (Here and Now and Then, Star Wars: Brotherhood) and veteran Star Trek comics artist Angel Hernandez. The series is set in the timeline of the original show and starts with Quark bringing a purebred Corgi on board Deep Space 9, intending to sell it. Everything changes, though, when the crew realizes the dog comes pre-loaded with a little something extra from the Borg.
The first issue will be released in April and will have multiple variant covers, including Cover A by Angel Hernandez; Cover B by Star Trek: Lower Decks artist Chris Fenogolio, featuring the cast of that comic (see “Ryan North Announces ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Comics”); and Cover C, the first of five interconnecting covers by My Little Pony artist Andy Price that will feature characters from DS9 with their lookalike canines. Retailer Incentive covers will include a black and white variant of Cover A and Deep Space 9 schematics with and without trade dress.
Hernandez was the artist for Star Trek Picard – Countdown (see “‘Star Trek Picard – Countdown’”).
