Dark Horse Comics, Critical Role, and Amazon Studios announced a new graphic novel series, The Legend of Vox Machina: Whitestone Chronicles, a set of prequels to Amazon’s animated series The Legend of Vox Machina. The graphic novels will be written by Marieke Nijkamp (Critical Role: Vox Machina Kith and Kin), in collaboration with the Critical Role cast, with art by Tyler Walpole. The first volume, The Legend of Vox Machina: Whitestone Chronicles—Ripley, follows Dr. Anna Ripley as she contends with the Briarwoods’ takeover of the de Rolo family. The book will be published in 2024, and a digital sampler is available on the Dark Horse and Amazon websites.

The Critical Role graphic novels have been best-sellers in both the direct market and the book channel (see “Top Author Graphic Novel Franchises – Spring 2022”). In addition to The Legend of Vox Machina, Amazon Prime just released a trailer for a new animated series, Critical Role: Mighty Nein (see “‘Critical Role’ ‘Mighty Nein Show Teased”).
