Opus Comics continues to expand its library of comics based on the works of painter Frank Frazetta with Frank Frazetta’s Mothman, a new series by Emmy nominee Tim Hedrick (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and artist Andrew Mutti (Bunny Mask) that will launch in May. The first issue will have two main covers, one by Mutti and one featuring the original painting by Frazetta that inspired the comic, and it will be previewed in the Opus Comics FCBD offering, FrazettaVerse #0.
In 1966 and 1967, numerous sightings of a seven-foot-tall humanoid creature with wings and glowing red eyes were reported around Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Since then the creature, dubbed the Mothman, has been the subject of several books and a documentary film, and Frazetta did a painting of it in 1980. The comic will take that painting as a starting point for the very strange story of the Mothman.
Last year Opus Comics launched its FrazettaVerse, a shared universe of comics inspired by Frazetta’s work (see “Opus Comics Launches Frazetta Multiverse”).
