Three superheroes from the Golden Age will return to star in three six-issue limited series that are part of DC Comics' New Golden Age initiative, which is helmed by Flashpoint writer Geoff Johns (see “Geoff Johns Follows Up ‘Flashpoint Beyond’ with ‘New Golden Age’”).

“It’s long past time that the heroes of the Justice Society had their own titles again,” Johns said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

All three of the new series will launch in October.

  • Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, by Tim Sheridan and Cian Tormey, starts in the 1930s and revisits Scott’s early years and coming of age, in addition to giving the Red Lantern a new origin story. This will be the first Alan Scott solo title since 1949, and it will be previewed in the upcoming DC Pride: Through the Years #1 anthology (see “DC Pride Month”).
  • Jay Garrick: The Flash, by Jeremy Adams and Diego Olortegui, reunites Garrick with his long-lost daughter Judy, who also has super speed, to complete a mission with roots in the distant past.
  • Wesley Dodds: The Sandman, by Rob Venditti and Riley Rossmo, has Dodds scrambling to find out who took his journals, which contain details of the sleeping gas he invented as a “humane” weapon of war.

“Tim has crafted a beautiful and shocking origin story for Alan’s greatest enemy, the Golden Age Red Lantern, that is both heartbreaking and inspiring,” Johns said.  “Jeremy has created a fun, emotional adventure celebrating the reunion of Jay Garrick with his long lost daughter, Judy, set firmly in the DC Universe of today and Rob will present a mystery tale of The Golden Age Sandman’s earliest days through the lens of Oppenheimer.  These three series will all tie back into Justice Society of America and a few other titles we’ve got brewing.”
