In July, First Second Books will publish the first volume of Homicide, a graphic adaptation of David Simon’s book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets.
Simon, who went on to produce the TV show The Wire, was a reporter for The Baltimore Sun from 1982 to 1995. In 1988 he took a leave of absence and spent a year with the Baltimore Police Department, shadowing the detectives as they went about their work. He drew on that experience for the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, which was published in 1991 (and was the basis for the TV show Homicide: Life on the Streets).
Philippe Squarzoni, creator of Climate Change: A Personal Journey Through the Science (see “Review: Climate Change”), did the graphic novel adaptation, which was initially published as three volumes in France in 2016-2018. First Second Books will publish it as two hardcover volumes, with the first due to go on sale on July 25, 2023, with an MSRP of $29.99. The second volume is slated for December 5, 2023, and will have an MSRP of $32.99.
