Mad Cave Studios has inked a deal with Japanese animation studio Tatsunoko Production to publish new comics based on the 1970s anime Gatchaman for adults and teens. While the stories will be new, they will be set in the world of the original anime series. The first title will be released in 2024.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, to use the full name, was created in 1972 and stars five teenaged ninjas who are tasked by the International Science Organization with keeping the earth’s natural resources out of the hands of the techno-villains of the terrorist organization Galactor. The first Gatchaman series was released in English, in a heavily edited form, as Battle of the Planets in 1978 and later as G-Force: Guardians in Space in 1986 and finally, uncut and under its own name, in 2005 as a DVD from ADV with box art by Alex Ross (see “Gatchaman DVDs from ADV”). Since then it has been released in other formats by other publishers. The characters from the anime later teamed up with three other Tatsunoko superhero teams for the manga and anime series Infini-T Force (see “Manga Round-Up”), published in English by Udon Entertainment.
