Stonemaier Games announced Apiary, a new science fiction worker placement game, which is projected to be available at retail in late November 2023.
The newest Stonemaier release takes place in the distant future where humans are no longer primary occupants of Earth. They have been replaced by a sentient species known as the Mellifera, who have constructed an advanced society. In this game, players control one of 20 different factions looking to build themselves up from a hive into a thriving unit of worker bees before the Dearth happens and hibernation occurs. Players will earn points by exploring planets, gathering resources, developing technologies, and create carvings to demonstrate their faction’s strengths over the course of one year's Flow. The hive that accumulates the most victory points wins.
This game was designed by Connie Vogelmann and illustrated by Kwanchai Moriya. It is for one to five players and plays in 60 to 90 minutes.
Stonemaier Games also released Expeditions, the sequel to Scythe, into retail (see "'Expeditions'").
