That Sound Game was created during the pandemic shutdowns by Nat and Cam, a queer couple living in Melbourne Australia. Released last year, the game became something of a sensation on Instagram and TikTok, driving its popularity. Now Asmodee has made a deal to distribute the game across North America.
In this team-based game, players take turns trying to make their teammates guess an idea or item described on a card drawn from a randomly selected category using only gestures and sounds. No words can be used, and the “Soundmaster” must keep both hands clasped behind their back at all times. Teams try to guess as many cards from the chosen category as possible before the one-minute timer runs out. To help them, the Soundmaster may use a “Lifeline” card to allow them to use their hands, while the opposing team can use a Lifeline to guess the answer and take the points. That Sound Game comes with 345 cards, 1 color die, a one-minute timer, a dry erase marker, and a scoreboard. The game is intended for 4 or more players, ages 14 and up, and plays in about an hour. MSRP is $29.99.
More mature audiences can add the That Sound Game: X-tension Pack, which adds 65 additional cards with more adult subject matter. MSRP is 13.99. Recommended ages are 18 and up.Also this month, Asmodee is launching Ludonova’s Amritsar (see “Ludonova Builds a Golden Temple in ‘Amritsar’”).
