Mary Jane Watson debuted her new alter-ego Jackpot in Amazing Spider-Man #925 (#31 in the current numbering), and she will do her first solo in a new Jackpot series that will launch in January by writer Celeste Bronfman and artists Joey Vazquez and Eric Gapstur. Now Marvel Comics has announced her first team-up, and it’s with a familiar face: Black Cat.
The four-issue miniseries Jackpot and Black Cat, by Bronfman and artist Emilio Laiso, will debut on March 27, 2024, with a cover by Adam Hughes. The story starts with Jackpot coming to Black Cat’s aid after she is blackmailed into committing a series of crimes, and the blackmailer turns out to be a familiar villain. “Opposites attract, and I’ve always loved the push and pull of their friendship,” Bronfman said of the pair in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Expect them to butt heads through heists, betrayals, and the unexpected!"
Back when she was just plain Mary Jane, Watson teamed up with Black Cat for the Eisner-nominated one-shot Mary Jane & Black Cat Beyond, by Jed Mackay and C.F. Villa, which was followed by the five-issue Mary Jane & Black Cat (see “Mary Jane and Black Cat Team Up for Limited Series”), by Mackay and Vincenzo Carratu.
