Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows are re-teaming at Ahoy with the six-issue Babs, a sword & sorcery satire. Ennis, co-creator of The Boys and Preacher, previously worked with Burrows on Crossed, The Ribbon Queen (see “Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows Team Up”), and Punisher: Soviet (see “Garth Ennis Writing Two Punisher Series”). The two have a new Punisher series, Get Fury, coming later this year (see “Garth Ennis’ Retro Punisher Series”).
Ahoy specializes in humorous takes on classic genres. In this example, title character Babs is a barbarian thief, trying to strike it rich, who winds up in an epic battle to stop Tiberius Toledo’s plot to exploit the local populace.
Said Ennis, “The character is one of my favorite types—good at the job but crap at life, with a lousy attitude to boot—and the world of Sword & Sorcery provides endless opportunities for deeply disrespectful humor.”
Babs #1 will be available on July 17, 2024, with variant covers by Chris Burnham and Amanda Conner.
