Mad Cave Studios will release a Gatchaman miniseries, one-shots, and a trade paperback collection in addition to the ongoing series (see "Mad Cave to Publish ‘Gatchaman’"), the company announced at ComicsPRO. All of the comics will be based in the world of the original 105-episode Science Ninja Team Gatchaman anime series that ran from 1972 to 1974 in Japan and was edited for American release as Battle of the Planets in 1978.
The ongoing series kicks off with Gatchaman #0, a Free Comic Book Day release with cover by Chris Samnee. Gatchaman #1, written by Cullen Bunn with art by Chris Batista, will be released in June, with Cover A by Inaki Miranda, Cover B by Sanford Greene (which connects with covers from the other four issues), Cover C by Chris Batista, Cover D Blank Sketch Cover edition, and Cover E retailer incentive by Francine Delgado.
The one-shots focus on individual characters. Gatchaman – Ken: Deathmatch, written by Tommy Lee Edwards with art by Mindy Lee, will feature Ken the Eagle, with release date in June. Gatchaman – Jun, focusing on Jun the Swan, will be released in November.
Gatchaman: Galactor, a four-issue miniseries written by Steve Orlando with art by Kath Lobo, will launch in July with a story of masked villain Berg Katse’s efforts to root out a revolution growing within the ranks of Galactor, the evil organization that plagues Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.
Mad Cave will release Gatchaman Vol. 1, a trade paperback collection of material from the ongoing series, in December.
