Designer Marc Andre (Splendor) is teaming up with Hachette Boardgames USA to create Middle Ages, a tile-laying game about building medieval fiefdoms. The game will release on June 5.
In Middle Ages, the players are the rulers of small fiefdoms that they must attempt to grow and improve over the course of the game. Players can improve their agricultural holdings, court the favor of the Church, expand their military, or focus on enjoying the palace life. They do so by drafting tiles representing medieval constructions such as farms, forts, markets, and churches, each of which has its own method for scoring. In addition, the various types of tiles interact with each other in different ways to enable players to increase their fiefdom’s income. As players collect sets of tiles, they improve the economy of their fiefdom and can even raid their rivals’ holdings.
Middle Ages includes 5 player boards, 10 screen-printed wooden pieces, 109 tokens, 15 cards, and 84 plot tiles, each with unique artwork. It is intended for 2 to 5 players, ages 10 and up, and takes about half an hour to play. MSRP is $34.99.
June will also see the launch of Quoridor Pac-Man (see "‘Pac-Man’ Board Game Incoming"). It follows the release of Task Team in May (see "Hachette Will Release ‘Task Team’") and proceeds August’s Nekojima (see "Hachette Announces ‘Nekojima’").
