Osprey Games has announced Battalion: War of the Ancients, a tile-based wargame designed by Paolo Mori (Pandemic: Fall of Rome) and Francesco Sirocchi (Pocket Battles), releasing this autumn.

Battalion: War of the Ancients puts players in command of the armies of antiquity, from Roman legions to Han crossbowmen and from Greco-Bactrian cavalry to the elephants of Carthage.  The units from the four unique factions are represented in the game by tiles that are deployed and maneuvered on the battlefield.  Each faction also has a deck of tactics cards that their commander can use to outwit their opponents.

The game is illustrated by Roland MacDonald (Shogun 2:  Total War, Undaunted) and will include 144 unit tiles, more than 70 game cards, 24 tokens, 2 boards, 6 dice, and 4 sector markers.  It is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 14 and up.  Games take around half an hour to play.

In September, Osprey will release Undaunted 2200:  Callisto (see “Osprey Unveils ‘Undaunted 2200:  Callisto’”).
